Selecting the appropriate material is critical for durability and aesthetics. For outdoor public spaces, prioritize Fiberglass or GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) as they are lightweight yet extremely weather-resistant. For high-end residential projects, Ceramic or Terracotta offers a classic look but requires frost-resistance treatment in colder climates. If the vases are for modern commercial landscapes, Corten Steel or Stainless Steel provides a contemporary industrial feel with superior structural integrity.

Ensure the vases include integrated drainage systems to prevent root rot; high-quality suppliers often provide removable plugs. For large-scale planters, check for double-wall construction, which provides thermal insulation to protect plant roots from extreme temperature fluctuations. Additionally, verify if the interior has a waterproof coating to prevent mineral leaching and exterior staining.

Buyers should demand REACH or RoHS certification for plastic and resin vases to ensure they are free from hazardous chemicals like lead or cadmium. For wooden planters, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is essential to prove sustainable sourcing. If the product is intended for the US market, ensure compliance with California Proposition 65 regarding chemical exposure.

Request UV-stabilization reports (typically Grade 8 or higher) to ensure colors do not fade under intense sunlight. For ceramic items, ask for the water absorption rate; a rate below 0.5% indicates high-fired stoneware which is less likely to crack in freezing temperatures. Always request a salt spray test report if the vases will be used in coastal environments to prevent corrosion.

The biggest risk is breakage during transit. To mitigate this, insist on 5-layer corrugated export cartons with molded polyfoam (EPS) or EPE foam protection. For bulk orders, products must be palletized and shrink-wrapped to minimize handling. It is highly recommended to include a 'Drop Test' requirement (ISTA 1A or 3A standard) in your purchase contract.

Utilize Made-in-China.com's secured payment services to protect your funds until delivery. When negotiating, offer a staged payment plan (e.g., 30% deposit, 70% against BL copy). For long-term partnerships, negotiate a 'Defective Allowance' (usually 2-3%) where the supplier provides extra units or credit to cover potential shipping damages.

Check the HS Code (typically 6914 for ceramic or 3926 for plastic) to determine the specific import tariffs in your country. Be aware of anti-dumping duties that some regions (like the EU or USA) may impose on specific ceramic products from certain origins. Always ensure the Certificate of Origin is provided to leverage any applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

Since garden vases are often high-volume but relatively low-value, Sea Freight (FCL - Full Container Load) is the most economical choice. To optimize costs, request the supplier to 'nest' the vases (placing smaller ones inside larger ones) to maximize container utilization and reduce the freight cost per unit.
