Figure stone carving manufacturers

The choice of stone directly impacts durability and detail. Marble (such as Carrara or Sichuan White) is preferred for high-detail indoor figures due to its fine grain and light translucency. For outdoor public art or harsh climates, Granite is the superior choice because of its high compressive strength and resistance to acid rain. If a budget-friendly or antique look is required, Sandstone or Travertine are excellent, though they require sealing to prevent water absorption and moss growth.

B2B buyers should request high-definition close-up photos of the face, hands, and drapery, as these areas reveal the carver's skill level. Ensure the supplier uses traditional hand-carving techniques combined with CNC roughing for precision. For large-scale projects, ask for clay model photos (1:1 scale) for approval before the actual stone cutting begins to ensure the proportions meet your specifications.

For architectural integration, ensure the stone meets ASTM C97 (Absorption and Bulk Specific Gravity) and ASTM C170 (Compressive Strength) standards. If the figure is to be installed in a public space, verify the structural reinforcement requirements, such as internal stainless steel (Grade 304 or 316) dowel holes for secure anchoring to the pedestal to prevent tipping.

Specify the application of professional-grade stone protectants (hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings). For coastal areas, the stone must be treated to resist salt spray corrosion. Buyers should also confirm that the carving is free of natural fissures or 'blind cracks', which can expand during freeze-thaw cycles, leading to structural failure.

The biggest risks are structural breakage and surface abrasion. You must mandate fumigated solid wood crate packaging with internal shock-absorbing foam and steel strapping. For oversized statues, ensure the supplier uses reinforced base pallets that allow for forklift access without touching the stone itself. Always secure Marine Cargo Insurance (All Risks) to cover potential damage during transit.

Start by providing a detailed 3D file (STL or OBJ) or a multi-angle CAD drawing. Negotiate a staged payment plan: typically 30% deposit, 40% after clay model approval, and 30% after final carving inspection but before shipment. Use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading Service to protect your funds until the goods are verified by a third-party inspector.

Check the HS Code (typically 6802 for worked monumental or building stone) for specific import duties in your country. Be aware of anti-dumping duties that some regions (like the EU or USA) may apply to specific stone types from certain origins. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin and a Fumigation Certificate to avoid port delays and quarantine issues.

Hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). They should check for dimensional accuracy (±2mm tolerance), material consistency (no unwanted color veins), and polishing glossiness (measured in GU - Gloss Units). Request a 'Dry Lay' inspection where all pieces of a multi-part sculpture are assembled at the factory to ensure a perfect fit.
