Desiccated coconut manufacturers

Desiccated coconut is primarily categorized by its fat content and particle size. High-fat (HF) desiccated coconut must contain at least 60-65% coconut oil, providing a rich flavor, while low-fat (LF) versions typically contain 25-35%. In terms of cuts, you should specify whether you need Fine Grade (sugar-like particles), Medium Grade (coarser shreds), or Flake/Fancy cuts depending on your application in confectionery or bakery industries. Ensure the moisture content is below 3% to prevent microbial growth and rancidity.

As a food product, compliance is non-negotiable. You must verify that the supplier holds HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO 22000 certifications. For entry into the US or EU markets, FDA registration or BRC (British Retail Consortium) certification is highly recommended. Additionally, if your target market has specific dietary requirements, ensure the product is Halal, Kosher, or Organic (USDA/EU Organic) certified to maximize market reach.

The product should have a natural white color; any yellowing indicates aging or poor drying processes. It must be free from yellow specks and foreign matter. The flavor should be sweet and nutty without any 'soapy' or rancid off-notes. When sourcing via Made-in-China.com, request a COA (Certificate of Analysis) for every batch to check for Salmonella and E. coli, which must be completely absent (Negative/25g).

To maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption, desiccated coconut should be packed in multi-layer Kraft paper bags with an inner polythene (PE) liner. Standard bulk packaging is usually 25kg or 50kg bags. For high-end retail-ready imports, ensure the bags are vacuum-sealed or nitrogen-flushed to extend shelf life to the typical 12-24 month range.

The price of desiccated coconut is highly sensitive to raw material costs and weather conditions in Southeast Asia. To mitigate risk, consider signing long-term framework agreements with price adjustment clauses or hedging your inventory during peak harvest seasons when prices are lower. Always monitor the exchange rate fluctuations between the USD and the supplier's local currency.

Utilize the Secured Trading services on Made-in-China.com to ensure your payment is only released after the supplier provides proof of shipment. Before placing a large order, conduct a factory audit or hire a third-party inspection firm (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) to verify that the weight, packaging, and microbial levels meet your contract specifications.

Desiccated coconut is susceptible to absorbing odors and moisture. Ensure the shipping container is clean, dry, and free from strong-smelling cargo (like spices or chemicals). Use silica gel desiccant bags inside the container to prevent 'container rain.' Upon arrival, store the product in a cool, dry place (below 20°C) away from direct sunlight to prevent oil oxidation.

Verify the HS Code (typically 0801.11) for desiccated coconut in your country to determine the applicable tariff rates. Ensure the supplier provides a Phytosanitary Certificate and a Certificate of Origin, which may allow you to benefit from Preferential Trade Agreements (PTA) or Free Trade Agreements (FTA) to reduce import duties.
