Chinese chess factory manufacturers

For high-end or gift-grade sets, prioritize natural hardwoods like Rosewood, Ebony, or Sandalwood, which offer superior weight and grain aesthetics. For mass-market or educational use, synthetic resins (Melamine) or Zinc alloys are preferred due to their high durability, impact resistance, and cost-effectiveness. Ensure that wooden pieces are kiln-dried to prevent cracking during cross-border transit through different climate zones.

Professional sets should adhere to the World Xiangqi Federation (WXF) standards regarding piece dimensions (typically 40mm to 50mm in diameter). The carving should be deep-etched and hand-painted or laser-engraved to ensure the characters remain legible after years of friction. For the board, PU leather or solid wood with UV-resistant printing is essential to prevent the grid lines from fading.

When importing to the US or EU, ensure the products pass EN71 (Part 1-3) or ASTM F963 toy safety standards, especially regarding lead content in paints and phthalates in plastic components. If the set includes a wooden box or board, verify if FSC certification is required for sustainable wood sourcing and check for phytosanitary certification to clear customs smoothly.

A capable factory should offer custom logo engraving on the side of the pieces or the storage box. Look for suppliers that provide bespoke packaging solutions, such as silk-lined wooden cases or magnetic closure gift boxes, which significantly increase the retail value. For international markets, consider requesting bilingual manuals (Chinese/English) to assist non-native players.

Always request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Since Chinese Chess pieces are heavy, they can easily crack or dent if not packed correctly. Ensure the supplier uses individual slots for each piece within the box and double-walled corrugated outer cartons. For large orders, sourcing through Made-in-China.com allows you to utilize Secured Trading services to protect your payment until the quality is verified.

Focus on the weight-to-price ratio, as the weight of the pieces is a primary indicator of quality in the chess industry. Negotiate for tiered pricing based on volume; typically, a 15-20% discount is achievable when moving from a sample order to a full container load (FCL). Ask the supplier to include a percentage of spare pieces (especially the 'General' and 'Chariot' pieces) for free to cover potential losses during retail.

Chinese Chess sets are relatively heavy, so Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical method for bulk orders. Be aware of HS Code 9504.90 for games, which may have specific tariff rates depending on your country. Ensure your supplier provides a Certificate of Origin to potentially benefit from Preferential Trade Agreements and reduce import duties.

Conduct a factory audit or request a video tour of the production line to confirm they are a real manufacturer and not a middleman. Use Escrow-based payment terms where possible. On Made-in-China.com, look for 'Audited Suppliers' who have been verified by third-party institutions like SGS or Bureau Veritas, ensuring the factory's legitimacy and production capacity.
