2.5 inch 500gb hard disk manufacturers

When sourcing, you must distinguish between Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SSD). HDDs use mechanical platters and are more cost-effective for bulk storage, typically featuring a 5400 or 7200 RPM spindle speed. SSDs, while often more expensive, offer superior read/write speeds (up to 550MB/s via SATA III), higher shock resistance, and lower power consumption, making them ideal for modern laptop upgrades and external portable drives.

Ensure the drive supports the SATA III (6Gbps) interface, which is backward compatible with SATA II. For external use, verify if the supplier provides a USB 3.0 or USB-C enclosure. You should also confirm the Z-height (7mm vs. 9.5mm); 7mm is the industry standard for ultrabooks and slim laptops, whereas 9.5mm is common in older laptops and server backplanes.

Prioritize suppliers who provide CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications to ensure electromagnetic compatibility and environmental safety. Look for a high MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) rating, typically 1 million hours or more. For HDDs, ask for the AF (Advanced Format) support and S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic capability to monitor drive health effectively.

The storage market often sees 'refurbished' or 'pulled' chips sold as new. You should demand 'Grade A' original flash memory (for SSDs) or brand-new platters (for HDDs). Request a H2testw or CrystalDiskMark report from the supplier to verify the actual usable capacity (approx. 465GB for a 500GB drive) and sustained performance speeds before shipping.

The biggest risks include counterfeit branding and physical damage during transit. Hard disks, especially HDDs, are highly sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and mechanical shock. Ensure the supplier uses anti-static bags and thick pearl cotton (EPE) foam packaging. Always use Made-in-China.com's secured payment services to protect your funds until the goods are inspected.

Given the nature of electronics, a 1% to 2% failure rate is common. Negotiate a 1-year to 3-year replacement warranty. For international orders, returning single defective units is not cost-effective; instead, negotiate for the supplier to include 1% extra 'buffer' units in the shipment or provide a credit for the next order based on video evidence of the defect.

Hard disks are relatively heavy but small, making air freight or express (DHL/FedEx) suitable for medium volumes. Ensure the HS Code (typically 8471.70) is correctly declared to avoid customs delays. Be aware of import duties and VAT in your specific country; for example, some regions have specific copyright levies on data storage devices.

Look for 'Audited Suppliers' who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or Intertek. Check their business type (Manufacturer vs. Trading Company) and their export history to your specific region. A supplier with a high 'Star Rating' and a long-standing presence on the platform is generally more reliable for technical electronics.
