1000 gsm hoodie manufacturers

A 1000 GSM (grams per square meter) hoodie is an ultra-heavyweight garment, significantly heavier than standard 300-400 GSM hoodies. You must verify the fabric composition, typically a high-density cotton blend or 100% cotton fleece, to ensure breathability despite the weight. Pay close attention to double-stitched reinforced seams and heavy-duty ribbing at the cuffs and hem, as the extreme weight of the fabric puts significant stress on the garment's structure. Additionally, ensure the hood construction is multi-layered to maintain its shape.

For international trade, ensure the supplier complies with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 to guarantee the absence of harmful substances in the heavy dyes used. If targeting the US market, products must meet CPSIA standards, and for the EU, REACH regulation compliance is essential. Furthermore, request ISO 105-B02 colorfastness reports, as heavy fabrics require intense dyeing processes that may be prone to bleeding if not treated correctly.

Performance evaluation should focus on shrinkage control; heavy fleece can shrink up to 5-8% if not pre-shrunk or garment-washed. Request a pilling resistance test report (ISO 12945-2) to ensure the surface remains smooth after friction. Because of the thickness, verify the zipper quality (e.g., YKK or SBS) if applicable, as standard zippers often fail under the tension of 1000 GSM fabric.

These products are positioned in the luxury streetwear and high-end techwear segments. They are ideal for extreme cold weather insulation or as a structured fashion statement due to their 'boxy' and rigid drape. They are not suitable for high-intensity athletic use due to their weight, but are highly sought after by boutique brands looking for a premium, durable alternative to standard fast-fashion hoodies.

The primary risk is volumetric weight vs. actual weight costs. Since 1000 GSM hoodies are extremely bulky, they occupy significant space. Shipping costs can be 2-3 times higher than standard apparel. It is recommended to use vacuum packaging to reduce volume, but you must ensure the supplier uses high-recovery fabric so the garment doesn't arrive permanently creased. Always compare FOB vs. DDP terms on Made-in-China.com to balance cost and customs clearance convenience.

To ensure transaction security, always use Secured Trading Services provided by platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never pay the full amount upfront; a 30% deposit and 70% balance after inspection is the industry standard. Request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third party to verify that the GSM (weight) actually meets the 1000g requirement, as some suppliers may substitute 600-800 GSM fabric to save costs.

Focus negotiations on MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) flexibility and sample lead times. Producing 1000 GSM fabric often requires custom knitting runs, so suppliers may demand higher MOQs (e.g., 300-500 pieces). Negotiate for a sample fee offset, where the cost of the initial prototype is deducted from the final bulk order. Also, clarify tolerance levels; a +/- 5% variance in weight is standard, but anything more should trigger a discount or replacement.
